Military and law enforcement personnel use Combat Gear https://pts-steelshop.com/collections/combat-gear to perform their jobs. But recently, this specialized equipment has become popular with civilians as well.
It’s not a stretch to say that the growing popularity of tactical gear isn’t necessarily good news. The 1033 program, for example, transfers surplus military gear to local police departments.
Body Armour
Body armor is an essential piece of gear that protects soldiers from rifle bullets and stab/slash attacks. It is typically worn in combination with metal or ceramic plates, which are inserted into soft vests. These plates give the soft body armor resistance against rifle bullets while tightly woven fiber layers make it resistant to stab and slash attack.
The vests can also be easily dismantled with a tug of a lanyard, allowing the wearer to escape a burning vehicle or building, or if they fall into water and need to be rescued by comrades. The vests are also designed to work with MOLLE attachment points, so holsters, mag pouches and grenade launchers can be attached.
The researchers investigated how different designs of body armour impact officer performance, using a number of measures including postural sway, vertical jump, agility and a functional movement screen. All participants were weighed wearing their standard station-wear, and then again after they had donned their body armour.
Backpacks
A soldier’s backpack is a crucial piece of gear that contains all the equipment needed for each mission. A standard military backpack, the Improved Outer Tactical Vest Carrier (IOTV), has various compartments for weapons, tools, medical supplies, rations and water bottles. Other essential gear includes first aid kits, hydration systems and personal items like books to give soldiers something to cling to as they are away from home for long periods of time.
Depending on the environment, some extra gear is included in a soldier’s backpack such as a Gore-Tex reinvented poncho that can also double up as a sleeping bag. Backpacks also have internal pockets that can be used for storing smaller gear, including elastic cords and twine to secure gear. The zippers of the backpack should be strong enough to withstand a lot of stress and pull. Daisy chains, pass-through holes, eyelets and hydration ports are other features that can be found on most tactical backpacks.
Holsters
The word “holster” is derived from the Old English noun heolstre, meaning “concealment, hiding place”. A holster is a device that holds or supports a handgun and keeps it in an easily accessible position. It also makes it easier to draw the weapon when necessary and discourages accidental firing.
Some holsters have level 2 or higher retention and incorporate mechanical devices that prevent a firearm from being removed from the holster without deactivating the device. However, these types of holsters are usually bigger and more obvious in appearance.
Other holsters may be more discreet. They include concealment holsters worn by plainclothes peace officers or civilians; duty holsters, which are used by police and military personnel in uniform; tactical holsters, which can be attached to battle belts, vests or drop-leg rigs; and sporting holsters for hunting and shooting sports. Modular systems are becoming increasingly common, allowing you to adapt the holster to different mounting points. You should always check the holster will accommodate your specific firearm, and that it fits and blends with your current wardrobe.
Clothing
Tactical gear has gained a foothold in civilian markets ranging from CrossFit athletes to bow hunters, and it’s not unreasonable to assume that macro social, political and economic forces could be fueling concerns that demand for self-defense and combat adjacent products is being fueled by irresponsible marketing. The fact is, it’s hard to dispute that Combat Gear has become immensely popular in recent years.
A combat uniform is a casual type of clothing worn by military, police, fire and public uniformed personnel for everyday fieldwork and combat duty purposes, as opposed to the more formal dress uniforms that are usually worn for parades and functions. The typical combat uniform is made of camouflage or disruptive pattern fabric, and it may be adorned with insignia and badges to denote rank and service branch.
Propper offers a wide range of uniform pieces in the official operational camouflage pattern (OCP) including jackets, pants, caps, and helmet covers. Each piece is carefully crafted to the specifications of the U.S. Army with consideration for pocket placement, range of motion and closure elements, felled seaming and fade resistance.
